Abstract
This catalogue celebrates artist Nakamura’s contribution to the evolution of modern art in Canada. Curator Holubizky analyses art works produced between 1953 and 1964 by this member of Painters Eleven in light of the “crisis of abstraction” period. Klepac and Cutts examine the Number Structure Works initiated in the seventies and based on algorithmic patterns. Klepac also draws parallels between Nakamura’s practice and those of artists S.
