Located in the gobi desert of southern Mongolia,the Oyu Tolgoi porphyry Cu-Au deposit is a world-class ore deposit explored by Ivanhoe Mines Limited Company of Canada.Deeply buried ore bodies make it very difficult to conduct exploration.Geophysical methods,such as induced polarization(IP),ground magnetic survey and electromagnetic survey,have played an important role in the exploration of this Cu-Au deposit.The effectiveness of the geophysical prospecting methods used in the Oyu Tolgoi deposit was analyzed and summarized in this paper.It is suggested that the prospecting methods applied to the Oyu Tolgoi porphyry Cu-Au deposit can be tentatively used in search for similar concealed porphyry deposits in gobi or desert areas.
