The effects of microwave and irradiation treatments on stalk surface properties of Canada goldenrop(Solidgo canadensis) were studied by means of infrared spectrometry and SEM. The results were as follows. (1) There is no obvious change in chemical compositions of stalk of Canada goldenrop after the treatments with microwave and irradiation. (2) The fiber cell structure was damaged more seriously by irradiation treatment than by microwave treatment. (3) On the stalk surface, a certain amount of silicon dioxide(1 070~800 cm~(-1)) accumulated while hydroxyl substance(3 416 cm~(-1)) was little.
