Abstract
Quel choix constitue l’école, aujourd’hui, pour les jeunes en âge de travailler ? Si elle n’est plus la voie royale vers un bon emploi, comme dans les années soixante, elle semble cependant indispensable pour éviter aux jeunes une mobilité sociale descendante. Quand on le peut, mieux vaut encore choisir l’école, pour éviter le pire. Pourtant, ce ne semble pas être le choix de 45 % des jeunes qui, au Québec, abandonnent l’école dès la fin de la scolarité obligatoire, avant même l’obtention d’un diplôme d’études secondaires. Quelle est la signification de ce choix ? De quels avantages relatifs à l’emploi bénéficient par ailleurs ceux et celles qui poursuivent leurs études ?
