Abstract
The September 2007 Montreal Protocol meeting marks the 20th anniversary and the Parties negotiated very hard to come up with a great news for the whole world,that is to accelerate the phase out of ozone-depleting substances(ODSs),including hydrochlorofluorocarbons(HCFCs),of which the most widely used refrigerant HCFC-22 was the focal point.This paper reviews the new directive from Montreal Protocol.While the consequence of Climate Change is more aware of today,those commonly acceptable alternative refrigerants become questionable because of the sustainability concerns.With reference to the recent scientific findings,various methodologies in selection of refrigerant for air-conditioning use in the building industry are discussed in this paper through integrated environmental approach.
