Abstract

Fractal image coding has advantages of high compression ratios, fast decompression and multi-resolving capability, but also has drawbacks of high computational complexity and time consuming. The spatial correlation reveals that neighbor blocks usually have some similar properties such as shade and image character, etc. According to such an idea, we have designed an improved fractal coding method by reducing the searching space in domain pool. Experiments show that the proposed method can perform higher efficiency than baseline method while the quality of the retrieved image is almost the same.
