L’accident vasculaire cerebral (AVC) represente la troisieme cause de deces la plus repandue au Canada. L’ischemie cerebrale dans sa forme la plus frequente d’AVC survient lorsqu’un vaisseau sanguin cerebral est obstrue, ce qui empeche le bon fonctionnement de la circulation sanguine dans la portion du cerveau touchee.1 Le plus souvent, une ischemie cerebrale provoque de la mort neuronale au niveau de l’hippocampe, une structure critique pour la memoire declarative.2 A l’aide d’etudes anterieures, il fut possible de determiner qu’une ischemie globale cerebrale pouvait provoquer une activation accrue de l’axe HPA, qui joue un role important dans la secretion d’hormones de stress, les glucocorticoides.3
