Molecular Characterization of Slow-Rusting Genes Lr 34/Yr 18/Pm 38 in Sichuan Wheat Varieties(Lines)

Abstract
The slow-rusting gene Lr 34/Yr 18/Pm 38 was conferred broad spectrum resistances to leaf rust and stripe rust. The aim of this study was to verify the distribution of the slow-rusting gene Lr 34/Yr 18/Pm 38 in90 Sichuan wheat varieties(lines). A total of 90 sichuan wheat varieties were tested using a STS marker cs LV 34 and 4 functional markers cssfr 1- cssfr 4 which were developed based on a 3-bp deletion in the exon 11 of Lr 34/Yr 18/Pm 38 gene. The result indicated that none of lines were characterized to have Lr 34/Yr 18/Pm38 resistance gene. The results tested by the STS marker cs LV 34 showed no difference to those of cssfr 1- cssfr4. The fact that the ratio of Sichuan wheat varieties carrying Lr 34/Yr 18/Pm 38 was very low,implied that this slow-rusting gene don't attach much weight in the core collection.
