Abstract
As for the problem of how newcomers adjust themselves to mainstream culture,both Canadian government and theoretical circles have particular views even debates.This thesis tries to analyze this phenomenon from the angle of Canadian national policy.The Canadian government prefers the term in talking of immigration and believes that integration based on conformity with the mainstrecma culture is a desirable way by which newcomers will become members of the receiving society.Superficially,Canadian multiculturalism shows a tolerant attitude to those persisting their ethnic culture;practically,it drives them outside the mainstream.
