Abstract
This study investigated the predictive role of emotion recognition and cognitive reappraisal in social maladjustment. An individual's emotion recognition, cognitive reappraisal and social maladjustment were examined by using the Toronto Alexithymia Scale(TAS), reappraisal subscale from Emotion Regulation Questionnaire(ERQ), and the social maladjustment subscale from Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory(MMPI). Based on a sample of 199 undergraduates, we found that the low frequency of using cognitive reappraisal is correlated with social maladjustment, as well as the low capacity of emotion recognition. The Stepwise multiple regression revealed that cognitive reappraisal strategy and emotion recognition accounted 18% of the variance in social maladjustment, which could predict the occurrence of social maladjustment.However, there were no interactive effects of emotion recognition and cognitive reappraisal on social maladjustment.Social maladjustment;Emotion regulation;Emotional clarity;Cognitive reappraisal
