The Effect of Geometrical Parameters and Mould Wear on Performance for Steel Offset Strip Fins

Abstract
A novel single fin performance test rig was built,and experimental studies were conducted on the six fin schemes with 3.0~3.6 mm in fin height and 6.81~8.45 mm in fin wavelength pressed by the same cold mould at low Reynolds number and the mould wear regulations as well as lifetime were quantitatively discussed.The experimental results were compared with the three-dimensional simulated results and Muzychka's investigation,and all tendencies agree well.Based on Levenberg-Marquardt method,the experimental data was regressed and the experimental correlations of fin performance were obtained.According to the measuring fin performance of different pressing times for one mould pair on production line,it was found that mould wear process can be divided into three stages,among which fin quality in the second stage is stable.The recommended lifetime of this type of moulds is less than 1 050 thousand times,above which burrs are evident.These results provide a reference for performance optimization of steel offset strip fins.
