Abstract
Golding finished his trilogy on the sea late in his lifetime,which consists of Rites of Passage(1980),Close Quarter(1987) and Fire down bellow(1989).The first one is among Golding's masterpieces that have ever been awarded.In the trilogy,Golding give penetrating description and analysis of the society on the sea.The three novels together expose man's common contradictive condition that man unyieldingly keeps pursuing spiritual freedom in a limited society.It demonstrates a high invisible tension in man and the living environment.
