A study on detection of chlorophyll concentration from Ocean Multi-bands Scanner

Abstract
In the paper, first, the properties of Ocean Multi bands Scanner (OMS) developed by Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics, Academic China (SITP) are introduced, and airborne test experiment of OMS in the typical area of Bohai Sea and Huanghai Sea and the procedures of the airborne data processing are described. Then, the paper is focused on the discussion of the two kinds of method to detecting the chlorophyll concentration from airborne data, one is so called qualitative analysis i.e. best channel selection and false color combination and another one is quantitative analysis i.e. model calculation. Finally, the spatial chlorophyll distribution by the two methods from airborne data has been compared to from satellite and in situ data. The comparison result shows that two kinds of method are reasonable to detection of chlorophyll, and that the OMS could be good candidate for the first ocean color satellite of china.
