Efficacy of diacerein,glucosamine sulfate and sodium hyaluronate on knee osteoarthritis

Abstract
Objective To investigate the efficacy of diacerein,glucosamine sulfate and sodium hyaluronate on knee osteoarthritis(KOA). Methods 80 patients with KOA were randomly divided into 2 groups. 40 cases in observation group received oral diacerein and glucosamine sulfate for 12 weeks,and received intra-articular injection of sodium hyaluronate once a week for 5 weeks. 40 cases in control group only received oral glucosamine sulfate and intra-articular injection of sodium hyaluronate with the same dosage and course. Visual analog scale(VAS) assessment on pain of walking for 20 meters,tenderness on palpation and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities OA(WOMAC) index were evaluated before and after the treatment. Results The assessment indices were significantly improved in both groups after the treatment(P 0.05),and the improvement was more significant in observation group than that in control group(P 0.05). During the treating process,no severe adverse events were observed in both groups. Conclusions Diacerein,glucosamine sulfate in combination with sodium hyaluronate treatment had prominent effect,was tolerable and safe,and worth clinical promotion.
