Abstract
Canadian Literature and American Literature have differences as well as similarities: the Canadial dual attitude of admiration and fear of America has recurred in various forms throughout Canadian literature; the literary themes are greatly different and Canadian writers often deal with the theme of self blame while American writers often deal with the confrontation of the two forces; the traditional Canadian hero is a loser, a determined loser while the traditional American hero is a victor, difiant, self reliant and individualistic; the Canadian new hero emerged in the 1970s while the traditional American hero became the viction rather than the conqueror of the social system.
