Abstract
Whether the Yin calendar seen in the oracle-bone inscriptions is a prescriptive calendar has been a controversial issue in the field of the history of ancient Chinese calendar.However,there are four kinds of inscriptional evidence indicating that Yin calendar indeed is a prescriptive calendar.Before alleged calendars of Yao and Xia Dynasty can be reconstructed based upon contemporary materials,the Yin calendar should be regarded as the earliest prescriptive Chinese calendar.
