Abstract
Based on experiences of power oscillations in the U.S. -Canada last year and in East, North and Central China in the past decdes, the paper demonstrates the importance of recognition of power oscillations with probably resulting in serious power failures. Recommendations regarding the improvement of power network structures,settlements of fast starting power units, rational arrangements of islanding grids and other measures are presented here. Measures to prevent power oscillations in cased of the power energy transfer from the west to the east part of China and in Three Gorges power system are also addressed.
