Effect of comprehensive psychotherapy in treatment of complicated depression on angina pectoris grade and electrocardiograph of patients with coronary heart disease

Abstract
Objective To determine whether comprehensive psychotherapy for depression in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) can or not lead to improvement in angina pectoris grade and electrocardiograph (ECG).Method The 70 depressed patients with stable CHD were alloted into experimental group and control group randomly, each group composed of 35 patients. Within 16 weeks, the conventional medical treatment was given to both the control group and experimental group, and the comprehensive psychotherapy was given to the experimental group only. The Beck depression inventory(BDI), angina pectoris grade and ECG were examined and compared between pre- and post- treatment effects in two groups. Results BDI, angina pectoris grade and ECG were improved more significantly in patients of the experimental group than those of control group.Conclusion Treating depression with comprehensive psychotherapy may weaken or remit depression, and improve angina pectoris grade and ECG.
