Abstract
[Objective] To understand the AIDS-related knowledge level of various groups on a road construction site in western Yunnan,and to identify the channels through which the workers access and obtain HIV /AIDS information.[Methods] Used both quantitative and qualitative methods to collect data measuring the level of AIDS-related knowledge,and recognize channels of obtaining HIV /AIDS information.[Results] There were very few channels through which the road construction workers obtain HIV /AIDS knowledge and information.The majority of the non-skilled workers had no channel to abtain related knowledge.Indeed,not only 13.6% of the non-skilled workers never heard about HIV /AIDS,but of those who did know HIV /AIDS,41.2% only had one mean to get the knowledge.Meanwhile,quarter of the skilled workers and drivers also had only one channel to get the knowledge.TV was the main means to access HIV /AIDS information on the road construction site.[Conclusion] Efforts should be made to increase the number of knowledge channels among workers.Peer education may be introduced,while multiple health education approaches might be adapted.
