The Nicotiana alata which was introduced from Canada was divided into groups according to their colors,measured by Panton Colour Chart.The composition and contents of flavonoids were detemined by using spectrophotometer,spectral scanning and high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) to speculate the pigments composition.No carotenoids,3-flavonols and charcols were found in different groups.Aurones were detected from all groups.Except for white flower groups,others all contained anthocyanins.The purple group had the highest content of anthocyanins,indicating that it was the key factor controlling the flower color.
