Evaluation of International Competitiveness of Fiberboard Industry in China from 1961 to 2004

Abstract
The paper makes comparisons of the wood based panel industry between China and ten other advanced countries such as the United States,Canada,Germany,et al.With the fiberboard statistical data of FAOSTAT from 1961 to 2004,we study Chinese fiberboard industry considering the production and trade status,and compare the results with that of advanced countries.We then evaluate Chinese fiberboard competitiveness quantitatively and make further international comparisons in the following four aspects: the international market share,the trade competition index,RCA index and GL index.The results show that on the one hand,although the Chinese fiberboard output index ranks first in the world in 2004,the international competitiveness of the industry is not strong enough and is lagging far behind that of Germany,Canada and other advanced countries.On the other hand,the international competitiveness displays the strengthening tendency.
