Abstract
Objective: To study the clinical features,etiologically factors, and outcome of chronic Sudbury haematomas(CSDH) in young and old adults.Methods:115 cases of CSDH diagnosed with CT/MRI and surgically treated from 1992 to 2001 in this department were analyzed retrospectively.They were underwent into young adults group(≤50 years,n=48) versus aged adults group(≥70 years,n=67).Results: There were certain characteristics particular to young CSDH patients,for example, higher incidence of headache(P0.05)and vomiting(P0.005)and more severe traumatic episodes(P0.05).The older patients had a more frequency of mental change and motor deficits(P0.001).The effects of surgical treatment were not statistically different between the two groups(P0.05).Conclusion:An understanding of the varied clinical presentation of CSDH is essential to improve prognosis and surgical outcome.
