Quality of Life in Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea/Hypopnea Syndrome and Its Related Factors

Abstract
Objective: To assess the quality of life (QOL) and the influencing factors in patients with obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS). Methods: One hundred and fourty-nine subjects refered to our sleep laboratory were surveyed for QOL using the Calgary Sleep Apnea Quality of Life Index, and for excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) using the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), for depressive symptoms, using Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). All subjects were divided into two groups accoring to Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI):OSAHS group (AHI≥5) and control group (AHI5). Results: Four aspects and the total score of the SAQLI of the OSAHS were significantly lower than those in the control subjects. The total score of the SAQLI was significantly correlated with BDI score and ESS score. Conclusion: The QOL of patients with OSAHS is decreased and depression and EDS was important influencing factors.
