Abstract
Since 1990 when the fentanyl transdermal system(Duragesic)was first put on the market,the deaths of 120 patients have been related to their use of the medicine.So people are very attention to the safety of clinical application of this new potent analgesic.While the results of these existing investigating were preliminary,and also there is no program to restrict use of the medicine or withdrawal of Duragesic from the U.S.and worldwide market.U.S.Food and Drug Administration(FDA)and the Canadian Adverse Reaction Newsletter and the Chinese State Food and Drug Administration(SFDA)have issued a Public Health Advisory regarding the safe use of Duragesic.and have made the following recommendations:physicians who prescribe the fentanyl transdermal patch and patients who use the fentanyl transdermal patch and their caregivers should be followed of the directions for using the fentanyl transdermal patch to prevent death or other serious side effects from overdosing with fentanyl.
