Abstract
Zoning in protected natural areas is a necessary and effective management measure, which came into birth with the appearance of conflicts in or around the protected natural areas, and developed with the evolution of these conflicts. Because of facing different problems, different countries have different zoning models. This paper elaborates the relationship between zoning and existing conflicts, analyses the emergence background of each functional zone of the protected natural areas, and compares different zoning models in U.S.A, Canada , Japan and Korea . Based on this, the paper summarizes three basic models and the corresponding relationship between zoning system and surface protection. In the end, some suggestions are offered regarding the zoning of China 's protected natural areas.
