The Artificial Aging of Welsh Onion Seed and Its Relation to Membrane Lipid Peroxidation

Abstract
Welsh onion seed was subjected to artificial aging under 40 ℃,100%RH for 1-6 days,the relation between artificial aging and membrane lipid peroxidation was studied. The results indicated that in response to the artificial aging,the germination rate,germination index,vigor index,GSH content,the activities of dehydrogenase,POD and SOD decreased. But contents of soluble sugar,MDA,free radical,H2O2 increased. The vigor index of seeds after 6 days aging was 70% lower than that of contrast seeds,varied more evidently than the germination rate and the gemination index.The changes of GSH,H2O2,free radical,soluble sugar contents were more remarkable than those of other physiological and biochemical indexes,and there was significant correlation between contents of GSH,H2O2,free radical,soluble sugar and welsh onion seed vigor.It is reasonable to suggest that membrane lipid peroxidation may play an important role in artificial aging of welsh onion seed.
