Au Canada, rares sont les adeptes du tourisme fluvial a savoir que la technologie ABB et ses treuils d'extraction minieres contribuent a la reussite de leurs vacances. La voie navigable Trent-Severn, qui relie le lac Ontario a la baie Georgienne, serpente sur 386 km a travers la province de l'Ontario. Reservee essentiellemnt aux plaisanciers, elle comporte 44 ouvrages hydrauliques, dont des ecluses, des ascenseurs pour bateaux et un ber roulant. Pour ce dernier, ABB a concu et installe un systeme de treuillage complique qui permet de transferer en douceur des bateaux sur une forte denivellation. ABB a releve le defi en adaptant un systeme de treuillage traditionnellement utilise pour l'extraction miniere et en lui ajoutant des fonctionnalites innovantes.
