Abstract
This paper reviews the evolvement and application of urban design ideas in the past in Wuhan.It introduces the structure of Wuhan urban planning system in terms of master planning,district planning,quarter planning and street block planning.The paper also summarizes the statutory planning system in different scales as well as its application in planning administration and its effect in shaping an urban spatial morphology.This paper is expected to shed light on the research and application of urban design system in other cities in China.
