Although coordinate measuring method is going towards automation, coordinate measuring machine(CMM) is widely used in a variety of situations. According to the character of CMM, we first put forward the principle of coordinate measuring,including considering the symmetry of the object to be measured, segmentation programming and the sufficiency and essentiality of the measured points. Functionalities of our model reconstruction software are described in the paper. As practical examples, the overall measured data of two types of motorcycle and the reconstructed CAD models are also included in the paper.
