Effect of hydrogen chloride on speciation distribution of mercury in coal-fired flue gases

Abstract
A bench-scale experiment was conducted to study the effects of HCl on the mercury speciation distribution in coal-fired flue gases. The Ontario Hydro Method was used to analyze the mercury speciation distribution. The effects of O_2, HCl and temperature at reactor's exit on the mercury speciation distribution in different coal-fired flue gas systems were studied. The conclusions were as follows: In coal-fired flue gas systems without HCl, the conversion ratio of Hg~(2+) to total Hg decreased with rise of reaction temperature; In the coal-fired flue gas systems containing HCl, the conversion ratio of Hg~(2+) to total Hg increased with rise of reaction temperature; higher concentration of O_2 could enhance oxidation of Hg; higher temperature at reactor's exit could increase the conversion ratio of Hg~(2+) to total Hg; the conversion ratio of Hg~(2+) to total Hg decreased with increase of Hg concentration.
