Inhibitions of lipid peroxidation and protection of DNA damage by triterpenoids from labiatae Isodon

Abstract
The antioxidative effects of seven triterpenoids separated from labiatae Isodon were examined by testing their protection against DNA damage in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells induced by H2O2,inhibition of lipid peroxidation and DNA strand breakage.These triterpenoids exerted variably protective effects in these systems.Ursolic acid has the strongest protective effects in all three systems.2α,3β,dihydroxy-urs-12-en-28-oid acid are effective in inhibiting lipid peroxidatian but weak in protection DNA strand breakage.It's isomer 2α,3α,23-trihydroxy-urs-12-en-28-oic-acid showed opposite actions.Oleanolic acid is only effective in DNA damage induced by H2O2 in single cell.The relationship between antioxidations and structures are also discussed.
