Abstract
The 125-year development of scientific journals sponsored by universities since late Qing Dynasty( 1889-2013) is systematically studied. It is concluded that The St. John's University Echo founded by The St. John's University in 1889, marks the birth of journal of comprehensive arts and science in Chinese universities, pushing forward the traditional viewpoint( Xue Fu in 1906) 17 years earlier. At present,the strategy of key scientific journals and featured journals will lead a new direction of development.
