La recherche-action est l’expression des limites et des contraintes imposées au processus scientifique par son insertion dans les rapports socio-politiques. En tant que réalité sociale concrète, la valeur de la recherche-action est d’être un analyseur d’une conscience croissante des enjeux du contrôle du savoir. La recherche-action n’est pas une nouvelle approche de la science ni une nouvelle méthodologie. Elle n’est novatrice du point de vue scientifique que lorsqu’elle est novatrice du point de vue socio-politique, c’est-à-dire quand elle cherche à replacer le contrôle du savoir entre les mains de groupes et de collectivités qui expriment un apprentissage collectif tant dans leur prise de conscience que dans leur prise en charge de l’action collective.
