Abstract
As an essential ingredient in Canadian culture, anti-American tradition helps to articulate the Canadian-ness. Accordingly, studies of this tradition hopefully throw light on the North Atlantic relations of Britain, Canada and America. From it also derives a better understanding of the survival as the cultural symbol in Canada, and the national evolution through which Canada gradually comes to its legitimacy.
