The Nature of IPA with its Compound Symbols and Methods of Denominating Chinese Terms

Abstract
The names of IPA symbols are expression of IPA classification and functions,which contain systematization and specifications of high degree.This paper discusses the Chinese terms of consonants,vowels and diacritics in the light of the principles for naming IPA symbols in Handbook of the IPA,and gives Chinese names for all IPA symbols.The method for naming consonants is the order passive-vocal-organs+ sub-classified pronunciation method(aspiration types/voice types)+pronunciation method,and for vowels items of tongue level positions+items of tongue vertical positions+lip positions.In addition,the paper points out that the nature of IPA symbols is of reference,which is static characteristic.So four types of compound IPA symbols are classified and the Chinese denominating rules for IPA symbols with complex features are suggested with succinctly summary.
