Abstract
With the objectives of high quality,high yield,and wide environmental adaptability,a new mulberry variety named Qiangsang 1 with medium budding and maturing property was bred by artificial sexual hybridization,individual plant selection,systematic selection,and regional trial and identification.Compared with the control variety Husang 32,the leaf production of Qiangsang 1 was increased by 37.60% per hectare.This new mulberry variety had strong growth vigor,excellent agronomic characters,and wide environmental adaptability.Nevertheless,damage to the plants of this variety caused by mulberry gall-midge was obviously less severe than that to the control variety Husang 32.The new variety has passed the evaluation of Zhejiang Crop Variety Evaluation Committee in 2009.It is suitable for growing in Yangtze River valley,the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River.
