Abstract
Region and regionalism are two sensitive topics in the social and critical discourse in Canada. Debates on regional literature have been carrying on all along in the evolution of Canadian literature. In the literary scene, there have arisen many different conceptualizations of regionalism such as formalism, functionalism, and mythic regionalism. In recent decades, urban regionalism has also captured the attention of literary critics, leading to the regionalization of Ontarian literature in the postmodern context. Postmodern regionalism celebrates difference and heterogeneity, thus deconstructing the national myth of literary unity and uniqueness,the focus of which has always been Ontarian literature.
