Analysis of cognitive dysfunction in elderly patients with chronic heart failure

Abstract
Objective To investigate cognitive dysfunction in elderly patients with chronic heart failure(CHF). Methods A total of 127 patients aged≥60 years were enrolled in this study and were divided into 3 groups:CHF group (n =53,with CHF),non-CHF group(n =53,with cardiovascular disease but without CHF) and control group(n =21) .Cognitive level of all patients was evaluated by using Montreal cognitive assessment scale.Results There were 77.4% of the patients in CHF group,53.7%in non-CHF group and 38.1%in control group who had cognitive impairment(P0.05).Cognitive score was significantly lower in CHF group than in other 2 groups(both P0.05 ).Cognitive dysfunction was deteriorated with the increase of NYHA classification or decrease of left ventricular ejection fraction. Conclusions Chronic heart failure may be one of the important factors aggravating cognitive impairment.
