Abstract
Through the long term study, the hydro generating units of the Three Gorges left bank power plant with the installed capacity of 700 MW per unit have been determined and approved in the preliminary design of the Project With the international competitive bidding, the contracts of 14 generating units for the left bank power plant have been respectively signed in September 1997 Of them, 6 power generators were awarded to VGS joint venture (including the companies of Voith in German, GE in Canada and Siemens in German), and another 8 power generators were awarded to ABB Company The electromagnetic design and structural design have been determined This paper describes the evaluation of the design scheme and structural characteristics of power generators made by such two companies
