Effects of different concentrations of nitrobenzene on seed germination and seedling physiological characteristic of rice were studied.The results showed that growth in elongation of rice root during seed germination was restrained significantly by nitrobenzene while the change of germination rate was not significant,the chlorophyll content of seedling decreased when the concentration of nitrobenzene increased.In a specific range of nitrobenzene stress,the activity of peroxidase and the content of malondialdehyde increased with the increasing nitrobenzene concentrations,however,enzymatic activity and malondialdehyde decreased when the nitrobenzene stress was overwhelmed.The concentration of 25 mg/L was proved to be the optimal concentration for the activity of peroxidase and the content of malondialdehyde.
