Abstract

This paper introduces the characteristics of hub based LAN and switched LAN, and the different way work supervision between them. Basic monitor techniques employed in the switched Ethernet are also introduced in the article, such as taking advantage of TAP equipment, configure of SPAN port, ARP cheating, MAC cheating and sending MAC flood packet. Authors then give an analysis on them and the advantages and disadvantages of them. However there are limits in the traditional monitor. To overcome them, we put forwards network monitor system based on the platform of mobile agent A-glets.
