Preparation and Water/Oil Repellent Behavior of PFOA-APTES Self-Assembled Dual Layer Films

Abstract
PFOA-APTES self-assembled dual layer films were prepared on silica substrates by chemical reaction of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) with terminal amino group of self-assembled 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) monolayers. Three samples of the dual layer film PFOA-APTES were obtained by varying the reaction time. The structure and morphology of the dual layer film were characterized by means of atomic force microscopy (AFM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The water and oil repellent properties were determined by water and hexadecane contact angle measurements. The results indicated that the perfluorooctanoic acid reacted with amino group successfully and the dual layer film showed some extent of water and oil repellency.
