Abstract
The plight of poor children is a Canadian tragedy. Despite the magnitude of the problem, both in the past and in the present, Canadian studies has largely ignored the study of children in general and those of the poor in particular. This article explores the meaning of that indifference and suggests possible remedies, Canadian studies and this journal more especially could make a substantial contribution both to scholarship and to the nation if they made research on needy youngsters a priority in the new millennium.
