Abstract
Loonsis one of the short stories in A Bird in the House written by Margaret Laurence, a woman Canadian writer. The story exposes the marginalization of the Metis people in Canada by relating the changes of Piquette Tonnerre, a Metis girl and also employing the symbols of loons' disappearance and nature's changes.My Old Homeby Lu Xun depicts a Chinese peasant Jun-tu, who has a similar life course as Piquette and reflects the intense sufferings of the peasants during the turbulent years in the Republic of China through the depiction of changes of countryside and also the changes of Jun-tu. Within the two texts are lots of comparable literary elements, like yearning for the beautiful rustic life, damage to the nature by the human society and blights of the lower class, woven with a song of innocence and experience. The resonating unity within the two texts provides the possibility for the comparative studies and also shows the universal and everlasting charm of literature across different nationalities, cultures and languages.
