Abstract
Thunderstorm is Cao Yu's first play,as well as the symbol of the maturity of Chinese modern drama.Its birth has raised one unprecedented thunderstorm in the 20th century's Chinese modern drama circle.Although Cao Yu denies himself repeatedly to other people's model,but regardless of the plot development,the subject implication and symbolic metaphor,Thunderstorm receives remarkable influence of Desire under the Elms by Eugene O'Neill,which was already paid attention to by quite many researchers.The prototype narrative structures of the two plays are compared on the basis of the prototype criticism theory by Canadian renowned literary arts theoretician Northrop Frye.
