Abstract
The WIPO Copyright Treaty(WCT) and the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty(WPPT) took effect in 1996,which generally requires that treaty signatories provide copyright protection concerning technological measures used to protect copyrighted works,as well as regarding rights-management information.Thus,the signatories to these treaties are more likely to have enacted laws similar to the DMCA than non-signatory countries.However,each possesses significant freedom regarding how to implement specific provisions of these treaties within the framework of their existing laws.This article provides a brief review of some of the key DMCA-type provisions implemented in Canada,China,the European Union,India,Japan,and Taiwan,resulting from each respective country's implementation of the WIPO Copyright Treaty and/or the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty.
