Abstract
Human activities in central Asia from 1955 to 2000 has been revealed by the changes of Sb concentrations in a 41.56-m ice core recovered at 7 010 a.s.l.in Muztagh Ata Peak,eastern Pamirs,Northwest China.Concentrations of Sb range in 1 to 51 pg·g-1,nearly 5 and12 times higher than that in Arctic Canada and central Greenland,respectively,indicating the cycle of Sb has been influenced by human activities.Changes in Sb during the period revealed that Sb production in Kyrgyzstan was an important source of Sb in Muztagh Ata ice core.It is also revealed that coal burning in Tajikistan as well as Kazakhstan is one of the sources of Sb in Muztagh Ata ice core.Regional human activities in central Asia present an increasing tendency from the mid-1960s to the beginning of 1990s and then followed a decreasing tendency since the 1990s.
