Under field conditions,effects of irrigation and nitrogen application on photosynthetic characteristics and yield of winter wheat were studied in the late stages of wheat development.The results indicated that the photosynthetic characteristics of flag leaves variously responded to water and nitrogen application.Chlorophyll contents,PSⅡ activity (Fv/Fo) and the maximal quantum efficiency of PSII photochemistry (Fv/Fm) increased and nonphotochemical quenching coefficient (qN) decreased when suitably more nitrogen applied,the treatment of suitably higher nitrogen raised net photosynthetic rate (Pn) and yield of winter wheat consequently.However,treatments of insufficient and too much irrigation badly affected the abovementioned photosynthetic characteristics by nitrogen application,especially in the rather late period,which reduced the wheat yield and irrigation and nitrogen efficiency subsequently.
