Changing the specific name of tea green leafhoppers in major tea plantations in Fujian Province,China

Abstract
In 2012 and 2013,we sampled tea green leafhoppers from south,central and north regions of the Fujian Province to determine which species were present and which one was dominant. In addition,samples of tea green leafhopper collected from tea plantations of Wuyi Mountain during 2006,2007 and 2008 were re-examined to determine their species identification. Our results showed that all 514 male adult leafhoppers identified in this study belonged to Empoasca onukii Matsuda( 1952). Hence,the species of tea green leafhopper in the mentioned tea plantations have great potential to be E. onukii,instead of E. vitis. Based on the above results,We hypothesized that the dominant species of green leafhopper in most of tea plantations of Fujian Province,or,even a large part of China could belong to E. onukii. We agree with Qin et al( 2014),which suggested that further surveys should be done around the whole country to confirm the hypothesis.
