L’auteur s’interroge ici sur le problème de la communication experts-profanes. Quel langage employer lors de la transmission des informations des uns aux autres ? A propos d’une brève enquête menée à propos du rhume auprès de personnes de trois niveaux d’études très différenciés, l’auteur dégage les conclusions suivantes : les savoirs profanes sont constitués par des approches parcellaires et rationalisées d’expériences vécues; l’ensemble des profanes sont démunis face au savoir scientifique véhiculé par les médecins. Le problème de l’éducation à la santé est vaste et complexe. Sa solution se trouve dans une animation réciproque d’information scientifique pour les profanes et de connaissance de la conscience populaire et de l’inconscient collectif pour les experts. Il doit donc y avoir une pluralité de messages allant tantôt des experts vers les profanes, tantôt des profanes vers les experts, tous alternant leurs rôles respectifs de manière continue. Un exemple relatif à la vaccination illustre ce processus.
